The Summary

This book is not for the faint of heart! What a rollercoaster of emotions. From the romance to the family drama, this book captures so many aspects of life so well.

The story takes place in two primary settings, Toronto and rural Alaska. The main character, Calla Fletcher, has been living in Toronto with her mother most of her life. She has no intentions on returning to Alaska to see her father, Wren Fletcher, until he falls ill. On her return, she meets one of her father's pilots, Jonah.

Right off the bat, the story kicks off with an enemies-to-lovers feel, and has some amazing banter between Jonah and Calla. But, admist all this, is the lingering family issues of Calla's past, which certainly has an effect on Calla's budding relationship with Jonah.

Genre: Adult Romance

The Review

I loved the writing of this book so much. From the dialogue to the vivid pictures, K.A. Tucker kept me hooked all the way through. I could hardly put the book down once I really got into it, and that did not take me long.

There are so many different aspects to this book, but it's so well-written and does a phenomenal job and making it seem vivid and real. While it is a romance book, and the main focus is the romance, there are other aspects of the character's lives that make it feel more real.

Like I said, this book is not for the faint of heart, the summary on the back of the book itself really sums up what to expect, and it is a true romance through-and-through. This book had me both laughing and crying. I always know it's a good book with a great story when it manages to draw out my emotions.

From a writer's perspective, I found the characters somewhat relatable and the plot very realistic. Obviously, the relatability of the characters will vary, depending on the audience. But the delivery of the dialogue and descriptions of the characters was so raw and real, that it truly felt emersive. So even if the characters weren't completely relatable, you certainly got to know them.

The plot was well-crafted, and there were a few tear-jerking plot twists. This was the kind of book that I had to sit for a moment after finishing. Just contemplating everything I had just read.

You get a good sense of where the plot is going, without ever being too sure. The book keeps you engaged all the way through. I truly loved it.

Emotionally, I thought the author depicted the feelings of love, both familial and romantically, very well. The feeling of loss and the struggle of losing a family member are things just about everyone can relate to. And K.A. Tucker did a beautiful job of describing that to readers. Amazing book, all-around.

The Rating

5/5 - My Overall Rating

5/5 - Ease of Reading

5/5 - Excitement

Reasoning:

The book was just so good. Like I said, I had to take a moment after I finished reading to process. Then, of course, I immediately went to see if there was a sequel. I will be going to the bookstore sometime this week to pick that next book up.

I found it very easy to read. I listened to most the first half on audiobook, since I've had quite the busy week, and even that was great. I didn't have any trouble following dialogue, despite it being written in first person (which can get tricky on audiobooks). And I didn't have any problem remembering the details from the audio portion when I switched back to reading my physical copy. It was a great, engaging read.

Lastly, it was a exciting book! It kept me hooked. I literally could not put it down after I started into the second-half. When I did finish it, it left me with that great (and horrible) feeling that I can never read that book for the first time again. Yes, I am going to pick up that next book!
