I love wrapping gifts. I think there is just something so intentional in the act of wrapping something up to give to someone else. It's quite literally the bow on top of the gift. Needless to say, I love seeing all the wrapping paper at Christmas time, finding cute designs and matching colors for gift sets.
That said, let's get straight into the books! I usually don't get my new books until after Christmas. However, in the spirit of this blog . . . and also the fact that I have a pile of unread books on my shelf . . . I decide to combine some new books with the unreads and wrap them up.
Some of these I found in online posts, raving about how great the reads were. Others, I just picked out off the shelf, and after reading their description, decided to give it a try.
No deep-dive on Pinterest required! Although I do love a good Pinterest binge, I sometimes find myself getting distracted for too long. That being said, I decided to include some wrapping ideas directly in this blog post.
My grandma always loves to wrap everything individually. She says that it makes the tree look more full. Definitely not because she loves wrapping things individually. Let me tell you, as a reader, I love hardcover books. But . . . they are much harder to wrap than regular books. Nothing to be intimidated by, when I wrapped these, I just had to be a bit more careful of the lip around the book.
You can always add a bow to your book tree, or a ribbon to tie the whole thing together. If you want them all to stay in place on top of each other, I recommend folding some tape or getting double-sided tape if you'd like.
P.S. I love double-sided wrapping paper!
If you already know some books your book lover wants, that's great! If not, start with finding out what they already like and pick some popular books in the same genre. Or, if you know them really well, pick something new you think they might like.
I personally love science-fiction and fantasy books. But I'll occaisionally branch out into new books. Most of the books I wrapped aren't brand-new on the shelf. Here are the books I've wrapped, just in case you're looking for something new:
Quick note: I have yet to read any of these books, so this is not a book review!
Book marks are a great little gift. I love the handmade ones and ones you get in the store. If you want to go the handmade route, I recommend a quick Pinterest binge.
I've seen quite a few book marks made with pressed flowers. Although I think watercolor and drawings look just as great. As a helpful tip: I like to use heavy paper or a laminator. The book mark will hold up much better!
If you're feeling a bit more creative, this is the idea for you! When I was little, my mom used to make these. I think there are multiple ways to make them. They're usually heavy fabric, like corduroy. They are basically weighted blankets. My mom would put dried pinto beans in them so that you could heat them up, although I'm sure there are mutliple ways to do it.
This would be a bit more time-consuming, but if you were looking for a creative gift, I would recommend it. It might be a fun little craft as well!
This is definitely a fun gift! I found this embosser at Whispering Pages after seeing in on Instagram. And I waited until Christmas to get it, as a little gift for myself.
They have a bunch of cute designs to put on the embosser, and you can put a name on it as well. I thought it was a super cute idea. And I was surprised by the quality once I got it. It stores nicely in a little case, and they send a QR code on how to snap the two pieces together. I really loved it, and I know another reader would too.
Here is the link to the Whispering Pages website, if you'd like to check it out:
Last, but not least, if your book lover likes to annotate their books for their little library, I recommend looking for annotation sets. I know there are plenty of magnet sets that clip onto books, as well as other options. I have never annotated a book, however, I know many readers do.
Thanks for checking out the blog. I hope you got a couple of great gift ideas! We'll be back next week with some digital gift ideas for your reader or writer. Merry Christmas and happy gifting!
